Marsa Plaza is located in Dubai UAE adjacent to Dubai Creek in the Dubai Festival City development, close to Dubai International Airport. It consists of 530 apartments within its 32 storeys and 180m length. The Intercontinental Hotel Group manages the mid section as 200 short stay apartments, while the developer has retained the apartments at the two ends as traditional leased apartments.
The ground floor has restaurant, business centre, gym and café facilities as well as back of house areas. A 20m saltwater pool is located at each end in the landscaped gardens, and at the top of the centre section of the building overlooking the desert and airport, adjacent to a gym overlooking Dubai Creek.
In 2005, working for Kann Finch Dubai, Matt travelled to Dubai for 10 days to completely redesign the building based only on a perspective sketch by another architect. By adding additional cores to allow through ventilation apartments, Matt increased the number of apartments looking over Dubai Creek from 40% to 70%. The redesign also delivered an additional 30 apartments.
In Australia, he led the design development team to deliver the project. The building was almost completely leased prior to completion.
