The Pinnacle Apartments are located along a busy main road leading to Sydney airport from the city. The complex consists of 100 apartments in a U shaped configuration over 7 levels with underground parking. Roads bound the site on 3 sides with a major sewer easement to the rear.
The site was subject to aquifer contamination requiring major retaining wall works and mass concrete slabs to resist the high water table pressure. As well, the site’s location on the main road and near the airport required special acoustic treatments to deliver the required amenity to residents.
The internal courtyard helps to provide solar access to nearly all living rooms in the complex. 3 lift cores serve the car park and apartment levels.
With 3 street frontages, the design philosophy was to create a series of “mini” buildings with different language to each street depending on orientation. The large corner “sail” element, pointing southeast was designed as an acknowledgement of Botany Bay’s history and maritime use over the last 200 years.
