Matt Brindley – Concept architect – Team design
The directors of Rice Daubney Group decided to move their office location to a yet to be built building in North Sydney, in a JV with a developer. The directors ran a design competition for the new building amongst their staff.
Matt Brindley, together with a team of 4 others, developed the winning concept. North Sydney Council had design controls for new infill buildings in the street, which required alignment of new infill with existing adjoining buildings.
Matt’s design concept put the idea that the building could bulge out along its façade as long as it returned to the alignment at its edges. This bulge would increase available floorspace and provide a signature sculptural façade heralding the building as an architect’s place of business. The concept was illustrated and resulted in a win for the team.
The developed design was submitted to the Council planners and accepted. The photo at right is the result.
