The Mandarin Club entered a joint venture with the Gordon Rugby Club to develop their clubhouse site in Chatswood NSW. The building contains 3 levels of retail shops, an 8 cinema Hoyts multiplex, the Mandarin Club and topped by the Gordon Rugby Club.
Matt Brindley as Project Architect was tasked to develop the design of the original concept as well as design the cinema complex. The cinema complex has 4 cinemas to each side of the central public space with a shared projection booth allowing one employee to run all projectors.
Toilets were located in the low height space under the raking slab of the cinemas. The corner entry provided easy access to train commuters from the original Chatswood interchange adjacent to Chatswood Railway.
Matt designed the cinemas in 3D ensuring excellent sight lines to the screens from all seats. These 3D models were then used to create the 2 dimensional drawings for construction.
